Tahoe Expedition Academy is a pre-Kindergarten through 10th grade independent school located in Kings Beach, California. Founded in 2011 and serving approximately 120 students, our mission is to provide engaging academics and outdoor adventures that empower students to reach their full potential by cultivating intellectual growth, character and confidence.

We are interested in bringing John Muir Laws, naturalist, educator and artist to our school for two days during which time he will take each of our classes out into the nearby Sierra Mountains and teach our students how to observe, draw, journal and deeply engage with the natural world around them. In addition to meeting with each of our 11 classes over the two day period, he will provide an interactive teacher workshop for all of our faculty, a special lunch-time intensive with our art teacher, and offer a special after school workshop for our students who struggle with learning or reading challenges. Mr. Laws is severely dyslexic and has developed techniques and strategics to overcome the challenges he faces with spelling, writing, and reading. Included in our school visit is a scholarship for our art teacher to attend a 3 day intensive workshop this summer on the use of nature journals.

If we do not meet our fundraising goals, we will reduce the time that Mr. Laws spends with the school/our students.
